Another 1/2 day today resulted in some much better King Mackerel action. Caught 3 nice Kingfish and 2 huge Spanish Mackerel amid some choppy seas. Back at it tomorrow with calmer waters in the forecast.

I think the King Mackerel might have been enjoyed the 4th too much as they were hard to come by today. We managed to grab a few bites but nothing like last week. I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching. Luckily, tomorrow is a completely different day; and, hopefully the Kings will be more cooperative.

Friday. July 3, 2009

The King Mackerel bite today picked up right where they left off yesterday. Enjoyed a 3/4 day trip today with some really fun guys from North Carolina. We ended the day with 5 King Mackerel and 3 Spanish Mackerel, releasing 1 of each species to be caught another day. The highlight of the trip was the great fight with a smoker Kingfish in the mid-20 pound range. Happy 4th of July everyone!! Taking the day off, will be back at it Sunday.

The Kingfish are chewing pretty hard and we took advantage of it today. In a 5 hour, 1/2 day trip we managed to tango with 6 King Mackerel, 2 large Spanish Mackerel, and decent sized Sharpnose Shark. Had a great time with a fun group from north of the border. Back at it tomorrow, hopefully the bite continues.

We shot through the inlet this morning with King Mackerel on the mind. Ended up 15 miles from shore in another steady Kingfish bite. Today was a catch and release day and when the dust settled we had 4 Kings, 2 Spanish Mackerel, and a few small Sharks all still swimming for some lucky angler to catch again.

Today we ran a full day trip with a great group. While the fishing was slow, a good time was had by all. We caught King Mackerel, Amberjack, and a Triggerfish. These fish were turned into an excellent lunch prepared by Hoof-N-Fins restaurant in Murrells Inlet.

Despite some choppy seas, we managed a nice bag of fish on a 1/2 day today. The King Mackerel are starting to get more consistent. Today we caught 4 speedsters in the schoolie 8 to 12 pound range. In addition, we also lucked into a nice 10 pound Dolphin, which hours later was turned into the freshest possible Mahi sandwhiches anywhere around!

Had a fun 1/2 day trip which inluded some great fisher kids. We picked away at the King Mackerel, releasing 4 nice ones within a few hours. Then we proceeded to drop some sabiki rigs to the bottom to see what kind of interesting critters we could find. We had non-stop action for the kids with all kinds of critter including Pinfish, small Black Sea Bass, Grunts, and some odd Sea Robins.

Ran a 3/4 day today. The seas cooperated today but the King Mackerel were somewhat MIA. We ended up boating one King Mackerel and 2 Spanish Mackerel before moving a little farther offshore. There we found some hungry, hard fighting Amberjack and caught 4. Finished the day offshore adding a Dolphin to the box and releasing a Little Tunny. Hopefully, the King Mackerel bite picks up in the next few days. In the meantime, there's still a mixed bag of all kinds of fish to keep the day action packed.
